The insert works great for browning on the stove. I've moved it to the oven from the crockpot with no problems, too. Well made. The insert seems light, but is very sturdy. Browns meats nicely on the stove (I have a gas range) then I just sit it back in the base and finish the recipe there. Great price compared to other slow cookers with a browning capable insert. It does seem to run a little hot on low...but modern slow cookers all seem to, now...this isn't uncommon. I just adjust my recipe slightly if it's heat sensitive. Highly recommend this slow cooker. Update: I have used this now about 20 times. It works flawlessly, and the insert is just fabulous. It's so nice to be able to brown meats in it, or finish gravy on the stove, or place it in the oven if I need to.
